The 2026 edition of the African STARS Fellowship Handbook was approached as a complete editorial redesign rather than a visual update of the previous publication. The objective was to create a handbook that could manage a large amount of academic, institutional and practical information while remaining clear, engaging and easy to use throughout the fellowship. The content was reorganised through a flexible grid system, strong typographic hierarchies and clearly differentiated sections, allowing fellows to quickly identify essential information. This new direction introduces a more expressive visual identity built around illustrated figures, bold compositions and large-scale graphic elements. The imagery places African scientists and health professionals at the centre of the publication, connecting the handbook directly to the people, disciplines and ambitions represented by the programme. Blue acts as the main structural colour, giving the document consistency across its different sections. It is combined with brighter accent colours that create movement, highlight key information and give the publication a more energetic character. Recurring lines and graphic shapes also serve as visual connectors between chapters. The design alternates between highly visual section openers and more restrained informational spreads. This contrast helps control the reading pace and prevents the document from becoming visually repetitive. Icons, QR codes, contact details and practical resources are integrated into the layout as functional elements rather than decorative additions. The final handbook combines institutional clarity with a stronger editorial personality. It presents the African STARS Fellowship as a rigorous scientific programme while also reflecting the energy, diversity and collective ambition of the professionals taking part in it.
